Professor Tony Bayer
Professor of Clinical Gerontology

Professor Bayer is a leading researcher in the area of dementia and his research has focused on the clinical care of people with cognitive disorders, with special interest in Alzheimer’s disease.
He has wide-ranging experience in clinical trial work with new anti-dementia drugs. Tony has developed an important interest in the areas of dignity, ageism and ethics related to older people.
He is Editor of the journal Reviews in Clinical Gerontology and other appointments include the Scientific Advisory Panel of Alzheimer Europe, the Public Health Committee of the Alzheimer’s Society and European Gerontonet Consortium.
Tony has published in the area of diabetes and older people and has developed an interest in the relationship between diabetes and cognitive impairment. At IDOP, Tony will be leading a programme of research that examines this relationship further.
