Institute of Diabetes for Older People

Aiming for excellence in diabetes care

IDOP Launch

The Institute of Diabetes for Older People (IDOP) was formally launched on Friday 23rd May, at the Putteridge Bury campus of the University of Bedfordshire, where the Postgraduate Medical School is located. The Institute was opened by Professor Les Ebdon, CBE, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Bedfordshire.

Professor Alan Sinclair, Director of the Institute, gave an inaugural lecture entitled ‘Surviving a Sweet Old Age!’ which was introduced by Professor Michael Preston-Shoot, Dean of the Faculty of Health and Social Science. Professor Mark Kearney from the University of Leeds also made a marvellous contribution on the subject of developing a clinical registry which is also being developed at IDOP.

More than 150 guests from academia, the NHS, the public and the media were present, and had the opportunity of meeting members of the IDOP Advisory Board and viewing a poster display describing the main areas of current and forthcoming activity within the Institute.
