Professor Ken Shaw

Honorary Consultant Physician

Professor Ken Shaw is an Honorary Consultant Physician, specialising in general medicine, diabetes, endocrinology and metabolism, based at the Queen Alexandra Hospital, Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust and University of Portsmouth. His specialist clinical interests cover a broad spectrum of diabetes conditions and other endocrine disorders, and in particular preventative aspects of vascular medicine.

In addition to regular clinical service activities, Professor Shaw serves as Ex-Officio Chairman at the Association of British Clinical Diabetologists (ABCD); Honorary Chairman of the Professional Support & Development Committee, Diabetes UK; Member of the Professional Advisory Council Executive, Diabetes UK; and Editor-in-Chief of the journal, Practical Diabetes International.

Professor Shaw has authored over 250 papers. Recent editorials have included ‘Caring for elderly people with diabetes in residential homes’  and ‘Developing new models of diabetes care: sharing success from local innovation’ (www.Profkenshaw.com)

Professor Shaw is currently a member of the Secretary of State for Transport’s DVLA Medical (Diabetes) panel and a medical advisor to a number of national working party groups, including NICE, the Department of Health and the Civil Aviation Authority. He is an alumnus of the University of Cambridge and a Scientific Fellow of the Zoological Society of London.
