Very pleased to hear about IDOP. I am 80 and a member of the Lothian Diabetes Representative Group but I find that as they have not yet got there the ‘younger’ people do not realise that having diabetes and being old prsent some new problems.
have just come across your existence through a Google search for Welsh standard treatment of diabetes. I am an insulin controlled diabetic of 62 years standings. I have seen many changes in treatment through the years but am not particularly impressed by the transfer of care from hospital consultant to local GP surgeries no matter how good. When living in Cheshire I had access to a Drop In Diabetic Clinic where I call in on two days a week if I had any particular query and know that i would see a specialist nurse or diabetic carer. If they felt it necessary they would arrange for me to be seen by a consultant. This was rarely necessary but the efficiency of this drop in unit was much valued as although I had to ‘wait my turn; I could nearly always get a knowledgeable anwer to any query no matter how minor on the day it occurred. I keep an eye on the web to see further articles from your newsletter. newsletters with interest
I am delighted that you have written - we have taken on some important work for the Department of Health around enhancing the diabetes care of older people and consequently we have been tardy in ensuring that the website is up to date! We are now making changes/updates and a newsletter is being prepared. We will keep you informed. Best wishes, Prof Alan Sinclair
Dear Mr Taylor
I was delighted to hear from you. I would be pleased to hear what special issues you feel we should concentrate on in enhancing diabetes care for senior citizens. We have been commissioned by the Department of Health to explore this aspect. We hope to produce ourr first newsletter soon and I will ensure you get a copy.
Dear Mr Seaton
We had some technical difficulties with our website but these have been fully resolved. We will be pleased to send you a copy of our Newsletter which is due shortly.
